Hand in Hand, But Separate? PayPal and Ebay iPhone Review

paypal-iphoneSo, when you think of PayPal you think of Ebay, and vise versa. Well, what’s not so hand in hand is making them two separate iphone apps. Which I understand because they are two different applications but I wish they were just intertwined into one application where you could control all of your PayPal and Ebay info. Well, this is not the case.

Anyway let’s start with PayPal. When you open PayPal you have to go through the whole account thing, email, login, and so forth. Once you are in you have four basic things you can do. One, you can check your balance. Two, you can go to history which displays your recent transactions. Three, you can send money.  Four, information (sign up, contact us, forget password, pin log in). Did those options sound boring? Well, they are that is pretty much the jist of the whole application. It is really clean and functions well, but who really does that much with their PayPal account and needs a seperate application just to perform these functions.

Next is Ebay, which is better than PayPal, but would be even better if you had all of your PayPal options in the Ebay app, right? Ebay is pretty much what you would expect, a mobile version of the web site. You can do a search which consists of: buying format, category, sort, price range, max distance. You can also go to my Ebay. Here you can log in and check all of your Ebay account information like what you are selling, what you have bought, messages, and your recent searches. The app is really well put together. I also like when you search you can see thumbnails in the list view which is extremely nice. Also you can toggle back and forth between an item and list view without losing you place in the search. Major plus, seeing as CraigsPhone fails on this.

So, I understand the purpose and functionality on both, but I believe these could be merged into one app solving all your needs without having to load and go back and forth between them which we all know is annoying and time consuming.

I take issue with some of the logic in your review. On the eBay side you’re correct and because of the dirty eBay empire you’re more or less forced to use paypal these days. The paypal app on the other hand is extremely useful all by itself and provides layers of security not normally found or effective on their mobile site. In this age of identity theft that is reason enough to have it on your phone if you use paypal.

I love your podcast girls, it’s my favorite, sometimes you might want to consult an expert though for some of the more serious apps with more serious functionality.

Well, don’t take offense to this, but to be honest if I consulted an expert then it wouldn’t be my review. Here on I iphoneslutz I give my review of the application and whether youlike it, love, or hate it, well, it’s my review. So, for me, as a 24 year old with no practical use for Paypal as a stand alone application this is my review dude.
